Patient: 66-year-old female
Background: This patient came to us with ongoing pain in her pelvic area and buttocks, along with heaviness, swelling, and discomfort in both legs. She had previously had a vein treatment (called endovenous ablation) on her left leg.
Diagnosis and Testing: Because her symptoms didn’t improve, we did more testing and discovered that one of the main veins in her pelvis, the left iliac vein, was badly narrowed, about 80% blocked. This was likely affecting blood flow and causing her symptoms. The vein on the right side looked normal.
Treatment: On June 3, she had a procedure to open up the blocked vein. We used a balloon to expand it (angioplasty) and then placed a small metal tube (stent) to keep it open.

Thankfully, her pelvic and buttock pain is now completely gone. She also reports that the heaviness and discomfort in both legs have improved significantly, if not completely. Interestingly, even though we only treated the left side, she also feels much better on the right side, particularly in the back of her right thigh and down to her knee.
