Patient: Female
Background: The patient came to us with severe swelling, aching, tiredness and discoloration in her left leg, especially after standing, sitting for a long time or traveling. These symptoms were making her daily life uncomfortable.
Diagnosis and Testing: We performed an ultrasound and found that one of the main veins in her pelvis, called the left iliac vein, was narrowed. This was reducing blood flow and causing her leg problems.
Treatment: In July, she had a procedure where we used a small balloon to open the narrowed vein (called venoplasty) and then placed a tiny metal tube (stent) inside to keep the vein open.
Results (One Month After Procedure): On follow-up, an ultrasound showed that the stent is working perfectly and the vein is wide open with no blockages. The swelling and discomfort in her left leg have improved a lot, with her calf size reduced by about one inch, and she feels better around her ankle too.

Schedule Your Appointment TodayPlan Going Forward: We will check the stent again in two months using ultrasound. After that, we plan to treat some remaining minor vein issues in her leg using a safe, guided treatment called Varithena. She is also thinking about having both knees replaced early next year, and we want to finish all vein treatments before her knee surgeries.
Summary: The patient’s left iliac vein was narrowed and causing serious leg swelling and pain. After the vein was opened and a stent placed, her symptoms have greatly improved, and the vein stays open well. Further treatments are planned to take care of smaller vein problems and support her upcoming knee surgeries.
