Consultation

During the initial consultation, Dr. Magnant will review your
medical history as well as perform a thorough physical exam
with a focus on the pattern of your lower extremity venous
disease. He will spend considerable time educating you
and providing you with a knowledge base of the mechanics
of venous insufficiency, as well as diagram your specific
disease pattern. Your legs will be photographed at the time
of your initial exam for future comparison and for insurance
documentation. You will also be fitted for compression
stockings at the time of your initial visit. Dr. Magnant strongly
recommends that you purchase a professionally fit pair of
hose on the day of your initial consult to help expedite your
treatment. Most patients will require a diagnostic ultrasound
examination to accurately determine the location and severity
of leaking veins. Dr. Magnant will review the ultrasound results
and outline the treatment plan and timeline at your follow
up exam.

The Ultrasound Exam

Duplex ultrasound is the gold standard exam for diagnosing
venous insufficiency. The ultrasound is performed in the
office and takes 30 minutes per leg. Specific attention is
directed to the deep vein system to rule out deep vein clots
as well as more focused attention on the function of the
underlying deep vein valves and valves of the superficial
venous system. Based on the ultrasound exam, an
individualized and logical treatment plan will be outlined.
Dr. Magnant will review your ultrasound results and outline
his recommendations for your treatment at the time of your
follow up appointment. In an effort to expedite your treatment,
we will do our best to perform the ultrasound exam and
follow-up exam with Dr. Magnant on the same day. Current
treatments are minimally invasive and are performed in the
office in less than one hour.
