An estimated 30 million adults in the United States suffer from treatable, symptomatic, superficial venous insufficiency. The presentations of venous insufficiency are myriad and range from unremarkable appearing swollen legs with superficial spider veins to the more obvious as ropey and bulging varicose veins. More severe signs such as stasis dermatitis and ulceration are often incorrectly thought to be related to untreatable deep vein insufficiency. Other more obscure and less recognized conditions such as restless leg syndrome, neuropathy, and fibromyalgia may also be adversely affected by underlying venous insufficiency. Many patients as well as primary care or specialty physicians may not be fully aware of the advances in the evaluation and treatment of venous insufficiency which have been made in the last 5-10 years. Since the year 2000, vein stripping has been replaced by endovenous closure procedures as the preferred treatment of symptomatic saphenous vein insufficiency. Many patients once thought to have untreatable venous problems may now be excellent candidates for endovenous closure techniques.

Dr. Magnant offers both radiofrequency (VNUS Medical Technologies) and laser vein closure (Cooltouch, Inc. and Dornier Medical) technologies to seal leaky veins. He is also very skilled in microphlebectomy (removal of large ropey varicose veins through tiny incisions) as well as in the treatment of all types of smaller varicose and spider veins with sclerotherapy (injections or laser). He is one of the only Board Certified Vascular Surgeons in the state of Florida and the only one in Southwest Florida whose practice is 100% dedicated to the evaluation and modern, minimally invasive treatment of vein disorders. His Registered Vascular Technologist, J. T. Jarrard, is arguably the most skilled noninvasive venous ultrasound specialist in the southeastern United States. It is Vein Specialists’ strong belief that specialization and focus within one’s area of specialty training is the best way to consistently deliver superior care. As a result of this singular dedication to venous disease management, the volume and complexity of venous patients seen at Vein Specialists is greater than most traditional vein practices. It has been the experience of Dr. Magnant and Mr. Jarrard that this more complex mix of patients and more thorough evaluation and treatment process has enabled many “hopeless” patients to be effectively cured.
