OBAGI MEDICAL FAQs

  • 1. Can a self tanner be used while on the NuDerm product?
Yes, but it is best if it doesn’t have an added moisturizer in the product. Added moisturizer will slow the process.
  • 2. Can I have my eyebrows waxed while on NuDerm?
If you’re having a hot wax treatment, you must stop using the Tretinol for a minimum of 7 days prior to having them waxed.
  • 3. What about laser hair removal while on Nu-Derm?
Stop using all active ingredients such as Clear, Exfoderm, Blender and Tretinol for 3-5 days prior to treatment.
  • 4. How many hours between the morning and evening routine?
    There must be 5-8 hours
  • 5. How much is a ½ gram?
On the Obagi logo, the distance from the O and A of the word Obagi is a ½ gram. Just squeeze a strip of product onto your pinky finger and it should be very close to a ½ gram.
  • 6. What is the difference between SPF, UVB, and UVA?
UVB are the burning rays, UVA are the aging rays, SPF is not as important as UVB and UVA. The only products that protect the skin from UVA must have zinc. The Obagi Healthy Skin Protector has 9% zinc. The UVA rays are very damaging and will penetrate through windows in a car, office, and on cloudy day. We Obagi offers a PHYSICAL UV BLOCK that is SPF 32 and 18.5% Zinc. This is great for active tennis players, golfers or anyone who spends hours in the sun!!
  • 7. What is the difference between Retinol and Tretinoin?
Retinol is sold over the counter and works as an antioxidant outside the cell. It’s not strong enough to reduce wrinkles.
  • 8. Why use the Vitamin C Serums from Obagi?
It should be used only in the morning after the Toner with the NuDerm.
It helps build cellular turnover, collagen, lighten and brighten skin, reduce inflammation, keep moisture in the skin and help with fine lines. Never combine with Tretinon. Most of our patients add this step after they are comfortable with the NuDerm system. This can be added at any time to your skincare routine
  • 9. How much peeling should I expect?
It all depends on the condition of your skin, the amount of damage and sun exposure. Most patients can expect the most peeling to be around the mouth area. Peeling is necessary and an important aspect of the NuDerm treatment. If you are not peeling after using the product consistently 3 -4 weeks than you need to call me to discuss increasing the amount of Tretinoin being used at night with blender.
  • 10. What is the Décolletage System?
This is designed for the chest and the neck. It helps with age spots, freckles, and fine lines and wrinkles.
  • 11. What is the difference between the Elastiderm Eye Cream and the Obagi Eye Cream?
Elastiderm is a corrective eye cream that increases Elastin and Collagen and reduces fine lines and wrinkles within 2 weeks used twice a day. It is not a moisturizer; it is a per-ocular antiaging therapy.
